The more hours you work behind a desk, the more you need to consider ergonomics. Having the right height and set-up to protect your posture is important. If you work for longer than 8 hours a day, you may want to invest in a height adjustable desk.
What’s your style?
When it comes to desk styles, there are plenty of designs and materials to choose from to suit your decor and work preferences. Wood and veneer is a traditional, popular home office desk choice. Popular desk shapes include L-shaped desks, traditional rectangle desks and corner desks. The L-shape is ideal for larger open-plan rooms, whereas the corner desk is well suited for smaller spaces.
If you predominantly work with a computer, you’ll want to make sure the desk can accommodate a mouse and pad, keyboard and multiple screens, if required. As for the paperwork, you may want to invest in a filing cabinet to keep all your files and documents in order.
Do you need storage?
Do you have lots of documents, or perhaps you want to keep your mobile phone tucked away while you work? Some desks come with built-in pedestal storage or drawers. It’s an economical use of space and means you can keep your desk space that little bit tidier.
Want a multipurpose desk?
If you would like your desk to be multipurpose, you may prefer one that’s easy to move around or disassemble. Flip-top tables are easy to stash away when you’ve finished your working day – perfect if you’re currently living and working in a smaller apartment. You can also purchase office tables that double up as a breakfast bar or kitchen table – although we’d only recommend this for shorter work sessions. For full 8-hour days, having a designated desk space is best.
