On June 30th, The LOF Group completed a remarkable adventure… climbing Mount Snowdon while carrying a full-sized office desk and chair. This daring challenge was undertaken to raise funds for Peterborough Cathedral, officially launch The LOF Group, and challenge misconceptions about preowned office furniture.
The climb wasn’t just symbolic; it was physically demanding and filled with purpose. The team aimed to prove that second-hand doesn’t mean second-best by showcasing just how sturdy and reliable refurbished office furniture can be, even when hauled up a mountain.
The team, consisting of 10 climbers and a 3-person support crew, took on Wales’s highest peak under extreme conditions. While the climbers tackled the mountain on foot, the support team took the train to the summit to meet and assist them at the top.
By the numbers, the journey looked like this:
- 🥵 Hottest day of the year
- 🥾 8 hours to complete the climb
- 🗺️ Almost 9 miles covered
- 📈 3,500 ft of elevation gained
- 👟 Over 48,000 steps taken
- 🪑 70kg of office furniture carried (desk + chair)
- 🚰 20 litres of fluids consumed
- 🍬 1kg of sweets eaten
- 🐑 900 mountain sheep spotted
- 👢 1 broken walking boot
- 🤕 0 injuries sustained
- 🚆 3 train seats used by the support team
- 😤 12,400,500 complaints registered (mostly about the weight!)
Despite the tough terrain and soaring temperatures, the team reached the summit successfully and with the furniture still intact. Once at the top, they set up the desk and chair for a truly one-of-a-kind office view.
The climb not only raised money and awareness for the historic Peterborough Cathedral, but also shined a spotlight on LOF’s core mission: promoting sustainability in the workplace. By reusing and refurbishing office furniture, The LOF Group is reducing environmental impact while offering high-quality, budget-friendly office solutions for businesses.
The effort was also the official launch of The LOF Group as a brand, one that stands for endurance, resilience, and smart sustainability. After this achievement, there’s little doubt: if a desk can survive Snowdon, it can 100% handle your 9-to-5.
The entire journey was captured in a 13-minute video that brings the challenge to life, from the early morning preparations and steep climbs to the laughs, struggles, and final triumphant summit. The video showcases the team’s determination, the scenic beauty of Mount Snowdon, and the sheer effort involved in carrying 70kg of office furniture to the top. It’s a powerful and entertaining look at the experience, and a great way to relive the day. Please check it out!
